Accreditation

Haleakala Waldorf School is now accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America, and the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools. HWS is the first Waldorf school in the nation to achieve a triple accreditation. The Final Report filed by the Visiting Teams cited the following areas as particularly strong:

HWS governance
HWS faculty
Extraordinary dedication and work of the HWS faculty, staff and Board
HWS financial protocols
Commitment of the HWS Board members
Charm of the HWS campus buildings; and
The allotment of teacher meeting time during the HWS school day.

The year 2004 marked a significant shift in the history of Haleakala Waldorf School. At 31 years old, it progressed from the pioneering phase of a Waldorf school, through the administrative phase, and into the accredited phase that publicly declares the school “successful.”

Over the past seven years, the Board of Directors and the College of Teachers have coordinated careful planning and discipline, resulting in a significant strengthening in each of the following five areas: Educational Excellence, Organizational Strength, Fiscal Strength, Community Building, and Site Development. The Capstone Event of this work was the earning of the “triple crown” of accreditation.
